  • Updates on Baby Cameron

    Saturday, December 12, 2009 11:27 PM, CST

Today Cameron was on his stomache getting feed and sleeping. The nurse reported that Cameron is doing well. The nurse also reported that Cameron, while on his tummy is trying to scoot by putting his knees under nesth him. All the vent seettings are the same and they incessed his feeds again. We are waiting for the ph probe test to be done. Well Mandy and i see off to a NICU support group meeting. Keep reading till I write again.

    Friday, December 11, 2009 10:24 PM, CST

Today Cameron had a visitor. Mandy's friend Karena came by to see you Cameron. It seems that Cameron is doing fine. The nurse informed us that they incersed his feeds to 56 cc's. After taking a look at Cameron's arm it seems to be getting better yet it still looks like the welps are still there and the nurse reported that there might be some scaring due to this incident, of what the nurse reports as an "IV Burn" because the nurse would not listen to Mandy's concern about the IV that was in his arm. The nurse also reported that plastic surgery may need to come in to give Cameron some treatment depending if there is a need for it. The vent settings are starting to be lowered at this time. Keep reading till I write again.

    Thursday, December 10, 2009 7:33 PM, CST

Well not much has changed for Cameron today.  The nurse and Mandy told reported that the IV had infiltrated, so that means that all the tpn and fluids that he was getting had leaked out and now is in his tissues, and they had just caught it today even though Mandy had told them something looked funny with the IV the day before.  They nurse reported that they have given him several injections with meds to help with thay although they did the injection sites are now red and have welts on his arm.  On a good note this forced the issue of Cameron being on full feeds.  So now Cameron is no longer on IV fluids but at 46 cc's of formula.  The nurse also reported that they figured out why Cameron was spitting up/vomitting his formula, and it seems that the nurse and the doctors had given Cameron too much Calcium in his formula.  Also the vent setting have gone down a bit in the pressures so that is a good step forward towards possible C-PAP soon.  Also they will be doing an reflux test on Cameron soon to determine if Cameron will need another surgery called a "fundoligation"  (I think that is how it is spelled.)  where they take part of the intestense and loop it around the esophagus to help create a constriction to be able to hopefully not allow the food to come back up causeing the reflux, and currently Mandy and I are faced with yet another possible surgery for that and possibly a G-Tube for his feedings.  Well that is all for tonight.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Wednesday, December 9, 2009 10:09 PM, CST

Today Mandy and I visited Cameron and it seems that he looked puffier than normal, per the nurse possible fluid build up.  Other than that Cameron seemed to be resting well.  The nurse indicated that there were no changes currently to the vent settings, but the Doctor  did increase Cameron's feeds to 40 cc's.  Then Cameron woke up from his slumber and Mandy got to change two poopy diapers and bathe him.  I got to work with Cameron on teaching him how to hold on to things such as one of his soft rattles.  Tonight Cameron seemed to have fun with us.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Tuesday, December 8, 2009 1:10 AM, CST

Today Cameron was doing well.  Cameron had a very special visitor today.  Santa came by and saw Cameron today.  Also the nurse informed us that they decreased his TPN and LIPIDS twice today and increased his feeds, with the hopes of getting Cameron on full feeds by tomorrow to be able to discontinue the TPN and the LIPIDS.  They also will be discontinuing his antibiotics of Vacamyacin today after he recieves his last dose.  Mandy found out that the factures that Cameron has in his ribs are mini factures due to lack of Calcium.  We met with the Nuerologist today and they explained to us what they are seeing in the brain scans which is not that great.  Which leads me to the questions why do doctors have to be so negative about things?  Is it a particular class they have to take in Med School that teaches them to be so grim with the facts and for lack of better words non compationate at times.  These questions I ponder on as I write this and look ahead to trying to figure out "What do I do next?", "Where do I go next with Cameron?", and "What else should I do to help Cameron and Mandy?"  I know these are all questions that I will find answers to in time, but I know that my impatience is getting the better of me.  Well as I get ready for bed, good nite all, Good nite Cameron, Mommy and Daddy loves you. :)

    Monday, December 7, 2009 8:18 PM, CST

Today Cameron had a very eventful day.  Cameron was taken down to have another MRI done and the results will be told to us tomorrow.  Also the nurse informed Mandy that Cameron has a fractured rib currently and is breathing harder than normal.  Other than that Cameron is doing okay today.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Sunday, December 6, 2009 6:34 PM, CST

Today Mandy and I visited Cameron and got to see RT change out his trach to a longer tach to help Cameron breath better.  And it seems to have worked because his CO2 went down to the 50's, which is better than before.  Mandy and I also got to learn how to bag Cameron if needs be so that we can better understand how to care for Cameron.  Cameron looked tired and seems to be doing well as he sucked on his paci and held it in his mouth by himself.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Sunday, December 6, 2009 7:15 AM, CST

I just got done calling the nurse this morning and it seems that Cameron is still sleeping so far.  The nurse reported that the night nurse reported to her that Cameron woke up later in the night and was just looking all around and was awake most of the night so he'll sleep most of the day today.  Wow it seems that Cameron is now following the sleeping pattern of a true new born wake up durring the night and sleep durring the day, LOL.  The nurse reported that the blood gas done this morning at 6 am was good and the PH is at 7.49, CO2 is at 46 and the O2 is at 22.  Cameron's current vent setting are, O2 at 24%, rate of 30 , title volume at 30 with a peep of 7 and pressure at 15.  Currently the nurse reported that he is stable and sating at 95.  It seems that Cameron is doing well this morning.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, December 5, 2009 9:10 PM, CST

Today Cameron, you had a lot of visitors from Granmaja, and Big Pappa, and Nana.  They all came to visit with you today and we all sat down with the Doctor and NP today to talk about Cameron's situation and his current development and the Doctor's idea of what Cameron's future outcome might look like.  At this time they have taken Cameron off of the Morphine and they had to stick him several times to get a new IV in his left arm, because Cameron, the little stinker, pulled out his other IV.  It also seems that when we saw Cameon that the vent settings were very low as his O2 was at 21% which is the same amount of O2 that is in the air that we breath currently.  The nurse reported that they did change out his trach due to the factor that he might have had a small leak in the trach and the skin because he seemed to out grow the trach, and Mandy was the first to notice the noise and point it out to the nurses about this.  It seems that changing out the trach is doing the job because his blood gases are comming back better with a lower CO2.  The nurse also told us that Cameron is on a rate setting of 30 and a title volume of 30  and sating in the 90's.  The current weight is 8 pounds and 4 ounces, but some of that may be due to the factor of being on the TPN and LIPIDS and fuild weight gain, but that will all change soon as they have started feeds for him today and over the next few days, hopefully the TPN and LIPIDS will go away.   Keep reading and I will update in the morning.

    Thursday, December 3, 2009 10:13 PM, CST

Today Cameron did not have that great of a day.  The nurse reports that Cameron's CO2 came back from the blood gass on the high end and that they needed to correct this by increasing the vent settings so Cameron's rate went up and his O2 requirements also went up.  They are also giving him more Morphine to help Cameron compensate with the pain.  Other than that the Doctors made no other changes on him.  I'll update more when I get more information.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Wednesday, December 2, 2009 10:15 PM, CST

Today has been a good day for Cameron.  He was awake and looking around even after surgery.  The nurse reported that they lowered the rate and his O2 requirments.  The nurse also reported that Cameron is resting well and there are no changes at this time, just allowing Cameron to heal up and rest from the surgery.  So far so good.  Good nite everyone.  Sleep well Cameron, Moomy and Daddy loves you.

    Tuesday, December 1, 2009 11:38 PM, CST

I just got word that Cameron came out of the surgery well.  He is on 50% O2 and sating at 98 continuously.  Cameron's blood pressure is at 93/43 (61).  He is still under the anesthesia and will get some morphine for the pain.  The surgeons went in and repaired two hernia sites.  He has two small incision sites, but seems to be resting well.  I will update with more when I know.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Tuesday, December 1, 2009 9:23 AM, CST

Just got word from Mandy that Cameron is doing well this morning and that he slept through out the night.  Mandy also reported that the surgeons just took him down to the OR for the surgery to repair the hernia.  Will keep everyone updated as soon as I know something.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Monday, November 30, 2009 7:12 PM, CST

Today has been a good day for Cameron.  Cameron learned today how to hold his own paci in with a paci doll.  Also Cameron had a good day per Mandy.  The nurse and the Doctors report negative blood cultures and that surgery is set for tomorrow morning at 7:30 am if the next following blood cultures come back showing no more infections.  Calling all Prayer Warriors out there, please pray for Cameron and the Doctors that will be tending to him as well as for Mandy and I for strength as we head toward tomorrows surgery.  I will update as soon as I can.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Sunday, November 29, 2009 7:59 PM, CST

Today has been a good day for Cameron.  Mandy and I visited Cameron and was surprised as the nurse directed Mandy and myself in a new way to hold Cameron to help promote Cameron's development of holding his head up.  So Mandy and I did as was told and Cameron liked this position as he started to fall asleep in our arms.  So far it seems that Cameron will be slated for the hernia surgery on Tuesday if all is well with the infection and it is under control.  That is all for now.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, November 28, 2009 6:07 PM, CST

Today Mandy and I Visited Cameron and he seemed very happy as he was very aley as Mandy played peek a boo with Cameron. We were told that Cameron now also has another infection in his blood and they raised his peesires on the vent from 13 to 15 due to the extra support needed. Also they will be possibly schedule the surgery on Tuesday not Monday depending on the status of the infections. Although this is truel Cameron seems to be doing okay. Good nite for now. Keep reading till I write again.

    Friday, November 27, 2009 9:25 PM, CST

Today Cameron had a good day. Mandy and I came by and visited Cameron and it seems that Cameron is doing okay and just resting well. Cameron seems to be fighting the infection the best that he can and it seems that if Cameron is negative for infection then he will be achedisled for surgery on Monday to fix the hernia. So good nite evetone' and good nite son.

    Thursday, November 26, 2009 4:21 AM, CST

Happy Thanksgiving eveyone. With love Cameron and family.

    Wednesday, November 25, 2009 11:12 PM, CST

Tonight we celebrated Cameron's Uncle KK's birthday and Christmas because Kevin will be going soon back to military life and to Afganistan (I think that's how you spell it.), and Cameron missed all the fun and festivities.
Cameron would have had fun with the rest of everyone.  Today the nurses told Mandy that Cameron's lab work came back showing he has an infection and that the surgeons will consider surgery maybe early next week if the infection subsides and all.  Other than that Cameron has his ups and downs today.  In getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow I am reminded of an old Sunday school class I had growing up looking at what are we all thankful for.   In this class I had a very good friend, Joshua who would always say that he was thankful for his family and the love his family showed him.   I never understood that as a child but now I can see what Joshua was saying.  Tonight and tomorrow as we celebrate Thanksgiving, Mandy and I would like to say thank you to all of our family and friends and the community that have and is continuing to support and show your love to us and Cameron in situation.  God is good all the time and All the time God is good.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

    Tuesday, November 24, 2009 10:19 PM, CST

Today has been not so good for Cameron as he continues to jump all over the place, sometimes he was stable and other times he would de-sat.  The nurses and the doctors believe that Cameron has yet another infection and Cameron has been running a slight fever on and off.  The nurses and Doctors did some blood work and ran some of their ussual lab work but no word on their results yet.  Currently Cameron is resting and on some antibiotics. Will update when have more info.

    Monday, November 23, 2009 8:46 PM, CST

Today was supposed to be the day for Cameron's surgery to repair the hernia, yet the doctors and surgeons told us no srugery today.  Also today Cameron got a great surprise for his Uncle KK (Kevin) came by and saw Cameron for the first time and also held Cameron.  Cameron had a wonderful day and seemed to have liked being held by Uncle KK.  More to come in the next few days.

    Sunday, November 22, 2009 9:50 PM, CST

Today has been an okay day for Cameron.  Today Mommy and Daddy came by and visted Cameron today with Grandma and Bill.  Cameron was doing well and he was awake and his eyes were open and just looking all around.  Mandy and I did get a chance to talk with surgery today and it seems that the reason that his stomache is distended so much is due to a blockage from an inguanal hernia and part of his small intestinse has become trapped in the hernia area and Cameron will be going in for surgery tomorrow to repair this and hopefully fis the blockage.  To all my prayer warriors out there, please pray for wisdom and a healing hand for the doctors and surgeons and peace for our family as we go for Cameron's 5th surgery.  I will update tomorrow as things are happening.  Good nite all.  Good nite son.

    Saturday, November 21, 2009 10:49 PM, CST

Tonight Momy and I came by to see you and spoke to the covering doctor and it seems that you do need the surgery son.  Again they will have to do surgery to correct the hernia that part of you intestinse is falling into which is hurting you, and where we are seeing the results by you distended stomache.  I know son that you don't want to go through yet another surgery and neither do Mommy and Daddy, yet we also understand that this seems to be needed for you to get better.  Soon enough you will be free from all this.  Tonight you look good son, and you were pouting hard for your paci and Mommy gave it to you and you settled down just fine.  It seems that the paci will be your new best friend.  Know that Mommy and Daddy love you very much.  Good nite son.

    Friday, November 20, 2009 8:44 PM, CST

Today has been just a waiting day for Cameron as we wait to hear back from the doctors what is going on with the x-rays and all.  It seems that we have a slight understanding that there may be another surgery that is needed.  Tonight Cameron seems to be doing well and he had a vistor, Auntie Erin came by and saw you with Mandy.  From my understanding Cameron is doing well and they are still keeping him NPO (no feeds) at this time and have him on IV fluids.  Other than that all seems good.  Good news Cameron soon you will get a special visit from a very special Uncle.  Good nite son.

    Thursday, November 19, 2009 9:50 PM, CST

Today has been a very busy day for Cameron.  Cameron went down to have some dye put into him for the upper GI test to see if there is a blockage in his upper GI.  Also Cameron has had alot of attention today from the nurses and doctors as there have been about 8 x-rays so far today of his belly.  The results will be in tomorrow and we will go from there.  Other than that Cameron seems to be doing okay with the low vent settings.  THe nurse reports that there is no infection so he is off of the antibiotics again.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Wednesday, November 18, 2009 9:52 PM, CST

Today has been a good day for Cameron.  Mommy got to hold Cameron for a while today and he is still doing well with his low O2 settings.   Cameron's tummy is still distended but not as much.   The doctors and nurses told us that they are going to take Cameron down tomorrow to run an upper GI test to see if there is a blockage there.  The night nurse reported to me that Cameron was a bit fussy, but settled down after a nice sponge bath.  To all my prayer warriors out there please pray for Cameron as he under goes yet another test tomorrow.  Keep reading till I write again.

Today was Cameron's 5 month Birthday.  Cameron had an okay day today as he had an eventful day.  Cameron had to go down to radiology today to get a berry enama for the abdominal CT to see if there is a blockage due to his tummy being so big.  Cameron did really well with this.  Cameron also got his O2 requirements down to around 22 - 21 % which we all breath about 21 % O2.  The doctors and nurses also informed us that they lowered his rate to 25 and the pressure is still at 29.  So far Cameron is sleeping well.  Good nite all, Good nite Cameron.

    Sunday, November 15, 2009 2:47 PM, CST

Today has not been a good day for Cameron.  Cameron did get a visitor today, Auntie Erin came by and Cameron was taking a paci from Erin.  Cameron's tummy is still distended and the nurses and Dr. Nawab are still concerned about this so they got an x-ray of his tummy and they said it still concerns them that it may be yet another infection, so they are giving him an IV currently to be able to give Cameron some IV antibiotics.  They are also drawing up some lab work to see if there really is an infection or not.  On a better note, Cameron is doing well on the vent settings curently.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, November 14, 2009 10:39 PM, CST

Today was a good day as we celebrated with friends, family, volunteers, and donors who made the Cameron Chan Benifit possible.  I would like to thank all that came out and those that could not make it.  This has been an amazing journey with Cameron, but also I have seen all the love that our friends, family and the community has for us and our son.  As I continue to say, Good is good all the time, and all the time God is good.  We went to visit Cameron tonight with Paula, and Cameron looked good.   His belly was a bit extended and they took some x-rays and it seems that Cameron has gas in his belly.  Other than that he is doing well, and his O2 requirements have been low in the 20's.  Tonight Cameron was awake and just looking around, and around, especially for his fishes on the mobile.  Today has been a good day for all.  Good nite all.  Good nite, son.

    Friday, November 13, 2009 9:35 PM, CST

    Monday, November 9, 2009 9:57 PM, CST

Today has been another hard day for Cameron.  His CO2 levels have been high in the 100's + and tonigh has finally come down to the 90's.  The RT's have checked the trach and they don't think its a trach problem.  The nurses and doctors believe that Cameron has gotten another infection, and is currently on some antibiotics. Currently the C-PAP trials are on hold till we can get the CO2 levels down and all.  Will update with more information as soon as we know more.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Sunday, November 8, 2009 9:21 PM, CST

Today was not a good day for Cameron.  We got a phone call from the N&P who reported to us that they will hold the C-PAP trails today because Cameron is not getting enough air into his lungs and after their x-ray it shows that part of the lungs on both sides have sightly collapsed.  Due to this they don't want to stress Cameron out any more so they will give Cameron an albuteral treatment and CPT as well.  After that Cameron seems to be resting well.  We will see what tomorrow holds for Cameron.  Good nite all.  Sleep well son, Mommy will be there in the morning to see you.

    Saturday, November 7, 2009 8:04 PM, CST

Also Mandy reported that the nurse and the Doctors have now turned off the machines that have Cameron the pain meds. So that means no more morphine and bp more versed at this time. Cameron has started to develop his personality as I watched how Cameron started throwing a fit especially if he did not get his paci. That's all for now, keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, October 31, 2009 4:34 PM, CDT

Today Mommy and Daddy went to visit Cameron today and Cameron looks okay and he looks really puffy due to the fluids he has built up. The nurse reported that the blood gas has been good enough that they have been weening the vent down. Also Mommy got to change Cameron's diaper and Cameron decided to pee on Mandy, lol. Happy Halloween Cameron. :)

But the nurse practitioner reported that eye doctors saw that the rop is coming back and Cameron will need eye laser surgery tomorrow. So yet another surgery. Please keep the prayers coming. Good nite Cameron. Mommy and Daddy loves you.

    Monday, October 26, 2009 8:03 PM, CDT

Today was a big day for Cameron as he went down to the OR and had his throat looked at and it seems that his throat muscles are not strong enough to maintain his air way open as the flap will close so quickly and Cameron can not open it by himself.  So the doctors went ahead and operated on Cameron and inserted a trach tube into his throat to help him.  Currently Cameron is stable and will stay very sedated as they allow him to heal up and rest.  That is all for now.  Good nite everyone.  Good nite son, Mommy and Daddy loves you very much.

    Sunday, October 25, 2009 7:10 PM, CDT

The doctors also reported that all the numbers as far as blood and platelets are also good.  The also increased the feeds up to 47 cc's and also the Doctors and the nurses reported that they will start turning off the pressures from the vent at 30 min at a time to see if Cameron can do well with this to help Cameron get ready to get off the vent and hopefully to the C-Pap soon.  They will also be taking Cameron down to the OR (operating room) to complete the bronch exam of his throat to see if his air way is okay to support the C-Pap.  To all the prayer warriors out there, please pray for Cameron and the up and comming bronch test and also for strength for both Mandy and I.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Friday, October 16, 2009 11:12 PM, CDT

Tonight was a good night for Cameron, but very scary one for Daddy as Mommy taught Daddy how to give Cameron a bath. This was the 1st time that Cameron received a bath from Daddy. Mommy does this all the time so she's a pro at it. Let me tell you that was an awesome experience but I was so scarf that I would break Cameron. After the bath, Cameron got weighed and he is 5 lbs and 4 ounces. Also diering the bath and all the movement around, Cameron did not de sat. That's all for now. Good nite all. Sweet dreams Cameron.

  • Everyone up in arms over Obama Care!

I keep seeing people complaining about Obama Care and how it is unconstitutional based on the 10th Amendment of the Constitution, which summed up states : "The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution's principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states by the constitution of the United States are reserved to the states or the people." from wiki.

Now ok I agree those pointing to the 10th Amendment are right! This is a matter for "the people".  But these people are NOT the general public; they are the people that represent us in government.  See many individuals seem to forget that we are not a Democracy but instead a Democratic Republic and because of this fact "the people" are those elected into government and not the general population.  So is Obama Care Constitutional? Yes because "the people" voted it into law, well they are so far.  It becomes legal when Congress and the House of Representatives votes it into law.

See the 10th Amendment isn't talking about you and me, unless you are an elected government official, because I am not.  So I wish people would stop trying to use the 10th Amendment as an argument against this movement.

Also I signed the consent forms for cameron to have his 4 month shots. So cameron will get these shots in the next few days. Keep reading till next time.

    Saturday, October 10, 2009 10:49 AM, CDT

Mandy and I came out to visit Cameron this morning and so far, Cameron is having a good day.  Actually Cameron is having a good enough day that he decided to pull a prank on the nurse that is taking care of him today and he pooped all over her, that she, the nurse, had to change her scrubs.  Currently Cameron is stable and no real changes currently.  So now Mandy are off to do some laundry on Cameron's sheets and all.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Friday, October 9, 2009 10:42 PM, CDT

Today has been a good day for Cameron. Erin came by to see you, Cameron tonight and you still will not open your eyes for her. It seems that Cameron likes to play games with evey one and his favorite game curently is "peek-a-boo". The nurse reports that Cameron's weight is the same and that Cameron tolerated the bath well. The vent settings are the same for now. Good nite for now.

    Thursday, October 8, 2009 9:59 PM, CDT

Tonight has been a good nite and a good day for Cameron. The nurse reports that they raised Cameron's feeds up to 41 cc's today and Cameron only had 2 cc's of residuals. Also Cameron,a weight is fluctuating again and is currently at 4 lbs and 14 ounces. Keep reading till I write again.

    Wednesday, October 7, 2009 9:03 PM, CDT

Today Cameron is having a good day.  The nurse reports that he is on about 40 % O2 at this time and that they were getting ready to feed him.  The nurse weighed him in at 4 lbs and 12 ounces, so it seems that Cameron lost a bit of weight.  Also the nurse reports that Cameron was sucking on his paci right before the feeding tonight.  So far so good and Cameron is staying pretty stable.  Good nite all.  Good nite son.

    Sunday, October 4, 2009 8:17 PM, CDT

Today has been a good day for Cameron as he is currently as stable as he can be.  Gandma came by and visited Cameron today with Mandy and I.  The nurse reported that Cameron's weight has not changed at this time and his O2 is between 33% and 36% at low vent settings.  As I close out this blog for the evening, the next fundraiser for Cameron will be this Monday, October 5th (all day long) and next Monday, October 12 (all day long) at Chili's in Atascocita, 7359 FM 1960 Rd E, Atascocita, TX  77346-3130 and thier phone number is 832-445-0890.  Where all day long when you place an order make mention of the Baby Cameron Fundraiser and 10% of your order will go to help Cameron.  Many thanks goes out to Chili's as well as to my loving In-Laws for arranging the next wonderful fundraiser.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, October 3, 2009 9:39 PM, CDT

Today was a good day for Cameron as we visited him tonight we found out that Cameron is stable on his vent settings.  Also the nurse reports that Cameron is weighing in at 4 lbs, and 10 ounces.  The only change that was noted is that the Doctor changed his feedings from 32 cc's to 37 cc's.

Today was also a good day after the Care for Cameron Benifit we all cleaned up and it seems that we had a good turn out for the fundraiser. Mandy and I would like to express our gratitude to our loving family and friends as well as to the Sons of Thunder and all the riders that participated in the Poker Run, Muligans (Coaches) and their wonderful staff, & Hoot County and our favorite auctioneer.   Thank you everyone for a very successful Benefit.

    Friday, October 2, 2009 10:13 PM, CDT

Today has been a good day for Cameron. As he went back to his regular feeds and away from his IV fluids after the ENT doctors checked Cameron out. As tomorrow comes the count down for Cameron's Benifit we only have just a little over 10 hours before the motorcycle ride begins as this will kick off the Benifit. Please keep everyone involved in your prayers as we move forward with the Benifit. Keep tuned into this website as I update the Benifit info here. Keep reading till I write again.

    Thursday, October 1, 2009 9:03 PM, CDT

Today was a good day for Cameron.  The Ear, Nose, & Throat Doctor (ENT) took a look at Cameron's throat area and found out that his air way collapses and that is part of the reason that Cameron is having a hard time breathing on his own.  There are a couple of options, but Dr. Nawab reported that we are going to wait and give Cameron time along with some good nutrition and some additives to help Cameron heal and let the throat muscles heal and grow as well as get stiff enough to hold up with out collapse and if it does not work then the Doctors are looking at an operation called a "trach" to help him.  Even though this is going on Cameron did really well today being on an O2 level of 30, a rate of 17, PIP of 5 and PEP of 22.  Cameron has had a good day.  As we get ready for the Benefit for Cameron Mandy and I would like to extend some words of thanks and gratitude for everything that everyone has done to help Cameron.  Thank you all for all of your prayers, and kindness and love that everyone has shown Cameron and our family.

    Wednesday, September 30, 2009 9:32 PM, CDT

Today Cameron was a bit irritable, yet Cameron did okay today. Cameron's cent settings are getting lower as his rate was changed to 17 and his O2 was at 26%. Mandy had informed me that the doctor wants Cameron to be checked out by and ear, nose, and throat specialist before moving Cameron onto C-PAP to maximize his success when he goes onto the C-PAP. Curently the ENT doctor wants to use a scope to see if there is blockage in the throat and if there is then the doctor will use a balloon type of device to open up Cameron's throat. When more information is avaliable I will blog then. Good nite everyone. Good nite Cameron.

    Tuesday, September 29, 2009 9:21 PM, CDT

Today was a good day for Cameron.  The nurse reports how they were able to lower Cameron's pressure setting from 30 to 25 on the vent.  Also the nurse reports that the most recent blood gases have been good and that they will attempt to lower pressure setting again early in this upcomming morning from 25 to 22.  Keep reading and praying everyone, as I am reminded that"God is good all the time, and All the time God is good."

Even though today was and still is a tough day for both Mandy and I.  We are both excited as we count down for the fundraiser set for this Saturday.  We are also excited to see the interview that Mandy, myself, and Dr. Khan had with Rachel McNeill from KPRC (local news 2, chanel 2 or comcast chanel 12) about Cameron and Cameron's fundraiser.  If you don't get a chance to watch the video I will post a link to this soon.  Keep reading, till I write again.

    Monday, September 28, 2009 12:44 PM, CDT

Today was an okay day for Cameron. Yet when we met with Dr. Khan today we were told of the results of the MRI of the brain. Dr. Khan reported that there was some brain damage in the grey matter and will possiblly affect Cameron's motor function and could possibly lead to Cerebral Palsy. We are waiting for OT and PT to come and work with Cameron and us with this. Till I write again keep reading.

    Sunday, September 27, 2009 5:08 PM, CDT

We just called and got word from the nurse that Cameron is back on the vent because he got tired. At this time we are waiting to see what the doctor may do to help Cameron. Till the keep reading.

    Sunday, September 27, 2009 9:11 AM, CDT

Mandy just called the hospital and we just found out from the nurse that Cameron is no longer on the vent.  They have moved him off of the vent and ontothe C-PAP machine.  Not only that but Cameron is on level 8 of 10 and at 50% O2 at this time.  This is just a reminder for us all that "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good."

    Saturday, September 26, 2009 10:06 PM, CDT

Today has been a good day for Cameron.  For starters Cameron's vent settings were good in the morning where his O2 was at 21% and the rate was set at 20.  Then later durring the day the nurse reported that they turned off the pressure to the vent but keept the O2 going.  And now this evening possibly tomorrow morning the Doctor may order that they extabate Cameron (Which means to pull the breathing tube out of this lungs.) and put Cameron back on C-PAP again for a 3rd and hopefully last try.  As soon as we get the order from the Doctor I will blog again, till then keep reading.

    Friday, September 25, 2009 2:15 PM, CDT

Just a quick update to let everyone know that Cameron is doing well.  The nurse reported that the vent changes that were made was the O2, where the nurse reports that she was able to get Cameron down to room O2 which is at 21%.  The vent changes are as follows of a rate fo 30 and they are still trying to ween him even more, and Cameron's Blood Gases showed that the PH of 7.37, and a CO2 of 61.  THe electrolites test and the CBC was good and no changes there.  More to come tonight when I see him, till then keep reading.

    Wednesday, September 23, 2009 8:42 PM, CDT

Tonight Cameron seems to be doing well.  THe last blood gas showed that Cameron was doing goodas his PH was at 7.34, and CO2 of 66.  Cameron's current O2 is at 30% with a rate of 34.  Cameron also got a bath today and he weighed in at 4 lbs and 13 ounces.  Keep reading  till I write again.

    Tuesday, September 22, 2009 9:22 PM, CDT

Today Cameron has had a very busy and full day.  Cameron  did go and get the laser eye surgery this morning at 7:30 am for the ROP.  Cameron did come out of this very well and was seen resting.  Cameron seems to be doing okay and the nurse reported that they started the feeds back up from being NPO since midnight last night to prepare for the surgery.  I will blog when I get more information. Till then keep reading.

On a side note Cameron's mom, Mandy, is in the hospital today with a low heart rate, 48 beats per minute. Normal is 60 to 100.  They are doing blood work to see what is wrong but right now all we can do is wait.

    Tuesday, Sept 22, 2009 8:30 AM, CDT
    A message from Cameron's Family ------

He is in surgery right now to fix the ROP with his eyes. The family is asking for everyone to pray for him.  Thank you.  I will update on baby Cameron's status once I know anything more.

    Monday, September 21, 2009 9:55 PM, CDT

Tonight I came by to visit Cameron and he seemed to do well as the nurse reports that he is sating well at 37% O2.  Although this is good, Cameron will be going in for the eye surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30 am.  This will hopefully help fix the ROP with his eyes.  To all my prayer warriors out there, I am calling on you again to pray for Cameron and the Doctors and Nurses that will be working with and on Cameron.  When I get more information after the surgery, I will write again.

    Sunday, September 20, 2009 9:02 PM, CDT

Tonight was good night for Cameron.  Tonight Mommy got to bathe Cameron and currently Cameron is weighing in at 4 lbs and 12 ounces.  Also the nurse reported that since the switch to the new formula, Cameron's stools are "much firmer" and the diaper rash is getting better.  Although this is good, Cameron's vent changes have not been so good.  The nurse reported that the rate went up to 40 currently, but hopefully will go down and soon to the C-PAP.  Good nite cow, Good nite moon, Good nite all, Goddnite Cameron.

    Thursday, September 17, 2009 5:16 PM, CDT

Cameron is doing good today.  The nurse reported that they went down on Camerons vent settings, the presure to 5 today.  Even though Cameron is making his own blood, it was not enough so they had to transfuse some blood to Cameron as well as some lasix so that Cameron does not get puffy or retain fluid.  The nurse also reported that they are giving Cameron breathing treatment every 6 hours to help Cameron out by breaking up some of the muscus in his lungs and make it easier for him to breath.  Keep reading till I blog again.

    Wednesday, September 9, 2009 8:40 PM, CDT

Today was a big day for Cameron for the nurse and the Doctor came by and reported that they are through giving Cameron IV antibiotics, and they also went up on his feeds from 28 cc's to 37 cc's.  The eye Doctor came by and reported that the ROP in his eyes is still there and this is the critical stage where Cameron might need surgery on his eyes, butat this time they are just monitoring it.  Also that Cameron's lab work has come back stable that they will only draw lab work now once a week, so no more poking and proding on him as much, yeah.  The Genetics Doctor came by and spoke to Mandy about Cameron missing some items in his Chromosone #1 and # 22 which explains some of the things that are currently going on with Cameron and may or may not possibly cause some issues with Cameron in the future.  Also the Doctor informed Mandy that they are still worried about his kindeys and the hydronephrosis and that they will follow up with Cameron on it and that if it does not self correct that they Cameron may need another surgey to fix this.  That's all folks.  G' Nite all.

    Tuesday, September 8, 2009 9:36 PM, CDT

Tonight it seems that cameron is up and down. This seems to be Cameron's pattern at this time. No changes today just maintaining cameron on the C-PAP. Keep reading till I write again.

    Monday, September 7, 2009 2:40 PM, CDT

I just got word from Mandy that Cameron is doing okay at this time.  The nurse and the Doctor changed the feedings to 27 calories formula today.  Currently he is at 70% O2 on the C-PAP.  Although Cameron seems a bit stable at this time it seems that Cameron may need another surgery, this time on one of his kidneys due to the factor that one of the tubes that is to the kidney is crooked.  We will know more tomorrow as the surgeon will talk to us about it then.  Will blog about that as soon as we know.

    Sunday, September 6, 2009 8:54 PM, CDT

Tonight was a hard day for Cameron as he was fighting hard on remaining on the C-PAP machine, as he struggled today he needed assistance from the nurses and Doctors as he needed to be bagged tonight.  The nurse reported that the only changes that were made tonight was that of his feeds.  They removed all the IV feeding today and then bumped up his Formula feedings from 18 to 28.  To all my prayer warriors out there, I am requesting that you continue praying for Cameron, specifically for his little lungs to heal and grow to help ease his labored breathing at times, and for Mandy and I, specifically for strength.  As I leave this blog tonight I bid all of you a good nite.

    Thursday, September 3, 2009 10:36 AM, CDT

    GREAT NEWS, EVERYONE!!!!!

I just called the hospital and spoke to both the nurse and to Mandy.  It seems that the Doctor is going to let Cameron stay on the C-PAP due to his last blood gas that came back better.  Cameron's PH was at 7.30 and CO2 was at 79.  That means that Cameron is breathing on his own as the C-PAP just adds extra pressure to help keep his lungs inflated.  This and many other obstacles that Cameron has over come has reminded me that "God is good all the time, and All the time God is good."  Keep reading till I write again.

    Thursday, September 3, 2009 5:36 AM, CDT

Last night when Mandy and I visted Cameron he was on C-PAP and fighting hard to stay on the C-PAP machine.  His blood gases had not been the greatest because of high CO2 levels, yet they were comming down a bit.  Also both Mandy and I were able to hear Cameron cry, it was the sweetist cry I have ever heard.  And yes, my little man has an awesome mohawk hair cut.  (I will post pictures of this soon.)  When we left Cameron's blood gas was tettering on the bad side and around midnight his blood gas was getting a bit worse but still okay.  This morning when I called they had just finished his last blood gas and it seems that it had gotten a bit worse, with a PH of 7.17 and a CO2 of 95.  The nurse had reported that they did an chest x-ray and it seems that Cameron's lungs looked a bit wet, which mean a bit of fluid build up around and on his lungs again, so they administered a 1 time dose of lasix to help Cameron try to clear that up and give Cameron more time to adjust to the C-PAP machine and they will drawn another blood gas soon.  If this blood gas does not come back good, then the nurse reported that they may have to re-intubate Cameron and put him back on the convential vent again.  On a brighter note his other lab work looks good and it seems that his potasium is better.  Please keep Cameron in your prayers and thoughts today as he continues to battle this.

    AS SEEN ON CNN iReport:

    Wednesday, September 2, 2009 11:54 AM, CDT

Just good word from Mandy that Cameron is feeling good this morning.  His vent settings are good, where he is at a rate of 20, PIP of 18, PEP of 6, and O2 is at 32.  Cameron also had a 28 cc diaper this mornjing and the last blood gas was good with a PH of 7.37, and a CO2 at 63.  The nurse reported that they will have to do another spinal tap  to check for menagitis due to the infection.  Although this is true the nurse reported that the doctors are thinking of trying the C-PAP machine again since his vent settings are low.  Mandy also reported that today Cameron got a hair cut and it kinda looks like a short mohawk.  It is really cool looking.  And some exciting news is that Cameron's Benifit made the newspaper.  Please check this out at the link  http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2009/09/02/atascocita_observer/news/36aocameron.txt .  Keep reading till I write again.

    Tuesday, September 1, 2009 3:17 PM, CDT

Mandy just informed me that Cameron did test positive for an infection, but the nurse reported that they were going to draw more blood to be sure.  Although this is true it seems that Cameron is doing well.  Some of Cameron's vent settings are that he is on 36% O2 and his rate is at 30, the PIP is at 18 and the PEP is at 6.  THe Last blood gas that they did showed that Cameron's PH was at 7.45 with a CO2 at 55.  Cameron was asleep last I heard and sating at 97 while lying on his right side.  Before that he had a 66 cc diaper, which means that is kidneys are doing a good job.  Keep reading till I write again.

    Monday, August 31, 2009 7:51 PM, CDT

Today has been a hard day for Cameron. The nurse and the doctor stopped the feedings and started Cameron back on the TPN and lipids. This is due to the factor that the doctor believes that Cameron has a possible stomach infection, so Cameron is now on two different antibiotics again. Other than that Cameron is doing well. Good nite cameron, good nite all.

    Sunday, August 30, 2009 7:46 PM, CDT

Tonight Cameron had another big day. Grandma, Nana, and great aunt Stacy came and visit Cameron this afternoon. It seems that Cameron is doing well, and the nurse reports that they changed the vent setting of the rate from 25 to 20. No other changes for now. Keep reading till I write again.

    Saturday, August 29, 2009 7:27 PM, CDT

Today was a big day for you Cameron. Today you got held by Granmaja and by your favorite Uncle Boo. Also Mandy got to hold you after you settled down a bit. You have been a bit fussy today and have had some good diapers with some good stools. Today they changed the formula from 24 calorie 27 calorie. The nurse reported that they are looking at possibly changing thr factor that cameron is on the vent to the C-PAP machine early next week. Good nite cameron. Good nite all.

    Wednesday, August 26, 2009 3:25 PM, CDT

I just got informed by Mandy that Cameron's last blood gas was good with a PH of 7.36 and a co2 of 56.  The nurse has also made some more changes on his vent and lowered his PIP to 25 at this time.  Also that they have started putting clothes onto my son and swaddling him.  It seems that Cameron is maintaining his body temp so far that they have moved him into his "big boy bed", so Cameron has moved from the isolation incubator to a crib.   Yeah, a lot of progress over the last few days, praise God.

  • Statement from Nobel Committe as to why President Obama won.

Norwegian Nobel Committee Chairman Thorbjorn Jagland gave only abstract justification for picking Obama. "We are not awarding the prize for what may happen in the future, but for what he has done in the previous year," he said. "We would hope this will enhance what he is trying to do." The committee's statement wasn't much more specific, alluding only to his "vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons."
